About Us

Our mission statement:

Food AND Medicine’s mission is to organize, educate, and empower workers and our communities in the fight for economic, social and racial justice. We believe that by creating active partnerships with unions, farmers, BIPOC groups, community groups, small businesses, faith-based and allied organizations we will create solutions and positive change. 

Food AND Medicine is a grassroots member-based organization that works to address the root causes of poverty. We believe it is an outrage that people in the richest country in the world are forced to choose between food, medicine, and other basic necessities.

We welcome anyone regardless of race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, or genetic information. BIPOC (in our mission statement) is an acronym referring to Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

Our guiding principle is solidarity, not charity. Our aim is to empower and involve those directly affected by poverty and food insecurity, to take an active, leadership role in bringing awareness and change. Rather than seeking simply to provide temporary relief, we seek to create the changes needed so no one is forced to choose between food, medicine, or other basic necessities.
